For more than 20 years, local Realtors® in the Somerset-Lake Cumberland region have helped raise money for local organizations through a charity auction held annually in May. Through generous donations, help and support of area businesses, the group has raised over $140,000 during that time.
This year, Realtors® selected two groups to receive proceeds from the auction – the Pulaski County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and Be the Village. The auction raised over $11,000 and the groups will split the funds to further their missions.
“Realtors® in the area host several fundraisers throughout the year, but the May auction is by far the largest and most involved,” said Sarah Adkisson, co-organizer of the event and local Realtor®. “It takes a lot of people coming together to make this happen and we are extremely grateful for the support we receive from our neighbors.”
The event, which coincides with their May meeting, consists of an online auction that lasts several days and is made up of items from gift baskets to overnight stays at Lake Cumberland and daily boat rentals. Additionally, on the day of the event, a live auction is held and the winner of a major raffle item is drawn and announced.

The funds raised will help Habitat continue to build, renovate and furnish homes in the region while Be the Village uses their support to resupply their Village Closet, assemble care packs and host family fun days for foster, adoptive and at-risk families.
“These organizations fill a big need in the surrounding area,” said Daniel Carmack, board member with Bluegrass Realtors® who attended the auction. “We are glad to be able to provide them with assistance. The Association takes giving back to heart – it’s a major focus for Realtors® as they understand the importance of building and maintaining strong and vibrant communities.”
